We meet again!
Later on in the novels we find out that the Malfoys have peacocks just wandering around their property, yeah? Harry specifically notices an extravagant tent at the world cup that had peacocks tied to the outside of it and I just can't help to wonder if he didn't notice the Malfoys tent without realizing it.
This isn't an epiphany but it needs to be said: it is a genuine tragedy that Charlie Weasley was not more a part of the books and story overall because me likes Charlie.
Ron is SO SWEET to Hermione in the woods when the chaos at the cup ensues. She's literally yelling at Ron about house elves and Harry still sees him watching Hermione and urging them all to keep moving to keep her safe. And then she's worried about them safely getting the muggles out of the air and he just so gently tells her that they'll find a way. All the heart eye emojis.
From the start they say that Ludo's not the most decent adult, yes? We get that. But why was he SO out of it and like... All over the place and confused when all that crap goes down at the world cup? Why does he keep just popping up and he doesn't understand anything that's going on? I know the whole things with the goblins, but is this one of the first instances that shows that the trio (and the rest of the younger generation) can't trust all adults no matter how decent they appear? He just seems to... Oblivious.
Also, how cute is Arthur? Amos is throwing his weight around over Winky and Crouch is throwing his weight around over everyone else and Arthur is trying to take the benefit of the doubt for all and calmly asks Winky what she knows. He's such a good dude and it's clear where his son's learned it from.
Wait a minute. Is Pidwidgeon not in the movies at all!? I keep thinking about how adorable Pig is and how much I love reading about this adorable little owl and I just don't remember Pig ever being in the movies and I just... Why leave that out!? Someone needs to phone these writers and directors asap.
Where DID Hagrid get the blast ended skrewts? I remember Rita Skeeter asking him about it and she wrote about it but honestly... How does Hagrid always get himself into those situations? They're so gross.
The whole thing with Moody always bothers me so bad. The golden trio truly think they're getting to know him throughout the course of the book and then they don't have a ton of time with the real him afterward. It just makes me wonder how much of it was Crouch JR being Moody and how much wasn't, because it isn't like Crouch JR had a ton of time to study and rehearse.
People have talked about how since this is in the 90s, there should be more representation from that era, right? What about this: "Parvati scowled and removed a large ornamental butterfly from the end of her plait". That sounds 90s, but is it more for her heritage than like, 90s style?
It has never really occurred to me before that when Rita Skeeter just happens upon Hagrid's class when they're fighting the skrewts that she obviously just changed into her beetle self to get onto the grounds, since Hagrid specifies that Dumbledore said she wasn't allowed anymore. With all of the other enchantments put in place to protect Hogwarts and the students, you'd think there'd be one in place for detecting animagus too.
Snape is so messed up. He moved Harry to the front of his class just to quietly confront him about possibly breaking into his store room. Which, have you met Hogwarts students!? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. It could’ve been any of them. And he ends up making a 14 year old so terrified that he’s about to be drugged with Veratiserum that he’s considering taking a hip flask everywhere. Like, good job, bro.
Why have I never thought about this before? Are Hermione, Lavender and Parvati the only girls in the same year for Gryffindor? And does that mean that just those three share a dorm room? Because I just can't imagine how awkward that would be, especially when Lavender starts dating Ron. Is it not always up to who's in your grade? I just always figured since that's how it is for the boys and Hermione never really talks about it.
Ahh yes, here we are. Rita does say that Hagrid bred the skrewts, I just couldn't remember. Hagrid will forever be my favorite adult in the novels, but good god man. You should be truly ashamed of yourself for breeding something like that. And Dumbledore had to know, right? Why would he let them use the skrewts for most of the dang school year when they're not even real magical creatures?
Harry really does earn everyone calling him totally oblivious doesn't he? When he's in the lake during the second task he literally looks at his watch to check the time even though he... Took his watch... Under water.
Question: do things like muggle hair dye work for wizards? Is it just that they never tried? Is Tonks' power really the only thing that can alter a wizards appearance? It's never been brought up before... Has it?
Doesn't it seem a little too convenient that the trials that would show what's happening now be the ones that Dumbledore just put in the pensieve, and then Harry just happens upon it? I understand that it's to rid yourself of too many thoughts to help you and Dumbledore would be thinking a lot about the trials. I just think he put them there purposefully and then left the door ajar on purpose. "Doesn't miss a trick, that man" or whatever Arthur said.
I can't get over the Weasleys and how genuinely amazing they are. Molly and Bill making a point to show up when family is allowed so Harry isn't the only champion without someone there for him gets to me every single time I read it.
So when Crouch JR says that his mom made sure to drink Polyjuice Potion up until she died, and then she was buried looking like him, does that mean that if you die looking like someone else due to the potion it stays that way? Or did they literally bury her in less than an hour of her death?
Somehow I always seem to forget that the Phoenix tail feather that's in Harry and Voldy's wand actually came from Fawkes, but it makes me so happy that Harry has that every time I read it. Fawkes is incredible and I just wish I could have a phoenix.
It's really amazing to me how these books transition to kind of dark and scary to just really dark and everyone's facing a ton of shit due to the impending wizarding war. It's something I appreciate more as the years go by and my kids get closer to being able to read the books for themselves.
Ahh, this is probably the book that has my favorite parting line. Something about it gives me chills every time. "As Hagrid had said, what would come, would come... And he would have to meet it when it did."
