We meet again!

Something many that know me know well: I am a summer person. I hate the cold. I love the warmth. I am not a winter person whatsoever. The approach of winter has been on my mind heavy lately. However, I am eager for beanies and hoodies. And I am a big celebrater, which being a mom makes it even better, so I am very excited for the upcoming holidays. Anyway, that has nothing to do with this book or the review, so here we go 

Brief Synopsis: Theodosia’s mother was the queen and she was murdered right in front of Theo at the young age of six years old. Theo’s castle and land was then taken over by the Kaiser. The land is now the Kalovaxian’s and Asterean’s, even Theo, are shunned, shamed and executed. Theo’s name is even changed to Thora, her title forgotten, as she is named the Ash Princess.

For ten years, she follows the Kaiser and his awful ways, afraid to do anything to step a toe out of line. Every time there is any sort of rebellion, the Kaiser uses Theo as a whipping post to make an example. Until the day that he forces her to murder one of her own, and something in her awakens. From then, Theo is ready to fight.

An old ally finds her and they decide that her earning the attention of the Kaiser’s heir, Prinz Soren, is the best route to begin the journey of knowledge and revenge. Thus begins Theo’s journey to make the Prinz love her. It’s easier than she would’ve expected and it comes with two huge setbacks: one, her “heart sister” Cress is trying to earn the favor of Soren herself. Two, without her permission, Theo has also begun to fall for the Prinz, no matter how much she denies it to her Shadows and herself.

Everything gets trickier when feelings are involved and Theo doesn’t expect many of the things that come her way. Who to trust, if anyone? How to escape and exact revenge, when for 10 years her sole focus has been surviving the best that she can by keeping her head down and her mouth shut?

I won’t go much farther than that but I will say that this book is jam-packed with death, betrayal, unexpected alliances and a plethora of hatred and villains.

My Rating: I’m giving this a solid 7.5 out of 10. I really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to diving into the sequel, Lady Smoke, which I will probably do as soon as I’m doing posting this.

Favorite Quote: “I am a hurricane barely contained in skin.”

Other books I have read by this author: Though a quick Google search showed me that she has written a few others, this is the first that I am reading by her. What a great first experience!

Check out my Goodreads (Traci Bishop) to see what I’m currently reading and to see a good chunk of the books I have already read. My Instagram can be found on the home page and I will share whenever a new post is up as well!

Until next time <3
